February 28th is designated as Floral Design Day, and we are proud to celebrate and recognize the individual contribution of Carl Rittner of Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Rittner was the founder of The Rittners School of Floral Design in Boston, and he was a pioneer in the art of floral design and education.
He was formally recognized by the Massachusetts governor, William Weld, in 1995 for his contribution and influence on the floral art.
Set Aside a Special Day to Remember
In recognition of Floral Design Day, take time out of your day to stop and smell the flowers and contribute to the furtherance and appreciation of floral design. You can be a part of this special day in many ways.
Come along as we give you tips to celebrate Floral Design Day!
- Think of your favorite flower for February (perhaps, tulips) and bring home an arrangement to fill your house with its sweet aroma and beauty. And, do not forget your place of business. Nothing adds instant warmth and allure as well as a sense of well-being as fresh flowers.
- Visit your favorite florist shop and talk to one of the designers about different floral designs. Investigate how each arrangement is different and look for similarities amongst the flower designs.
- While you are at your favorite flower shop, make the day of a friend or loved one and order them a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a surprise way to celebrate Floral Design Day.
- Restore an old friendship that has fallen by the wayside and send a simple arrangement to remind them of all of the good times you have had together.

- Take a trip to your local art museum and search for paintings and art objects which depict floral designs.
- Search your local community college or city and county parks and recreation website for floral design classes. Unleash your inner Martha Stewart by signing up for a floral design class today.
- Visit your local bookstore for floral design books that inspire you.
