It’s National Wildflower Week!

From May 5 through May 11th, our nation celebrates the beauty and wonderment of wildflower. Throughout the United States, we have a wild array of stunning wildflowers on display. To continually be reminded of just how special these flowers are, National Wildflower Week was created by the American Wildflower Society in 1988. Since then, it has been celebrated each May as a way to remember that we must protect our precious natural resources and take care of wildflowers so that future generations will be able to enjoy them. What are Wildflowers? Wildflowers are typically defined as any flower that grows in the wild without being intentionally planted. Although you sometimes can buy seed packets that state that they are wildflowers, these are typically mixed species or some type of hybrid. It is often a catch-all term for flowers that may not be typically found in a specific area but have been found in the wild. There is a long list of wildflowers listed just for the Georgia area.
